Long COVID surveillance gaps across 58 US hospitals published in JAMA Network Open

Our study led by Jiazi Tian, Long COVID Persistence and Surveillance Gaps Across 58 US Hospitals, has been published in JAMA Network Open.
We applied our precision phenotyping algorithm, P2RC, to electronic health records from 58 hospitals and affiliated clinics in New England, Southeast Texas, Southern California, and Western Pennsylvania. Among 457,950 adults with COVID-19, 16.3% developed Long COVID, whereas code-based surveillance places the rate below 7%. Of the patients we identified, 89.3% had at least one chronic condition that required ongoing care, and prevalence continued to rise in all four regions through mid-2024.
